More on my Case Study movies

21 Jump Street: Release date: March 12, 2012 (initial release)
This is the ideal time to release a comedy, as spring is when most comedies are released.Alot of partner comedies were released during this month such as This means war and Wanderlust.this would attract ages ranging from univeristy students as 21 jump street was at first a Tv Show in the 80's/90's.Fits this season as it is spring time, lighthearted and when the fun begins that builds it up to summer. 21 Jump Street was released on DVD and was released in the United Kingdom on July 9, 2012, the number of sold DVD's is unknown as it is to early to calculate.
500 Days of Summer: Release date: July 17, 2009 (initial release)
this is when alot of the blockbuster movies are released every weekend along with a more independant movie. This fits the independant movie category but soon it became a blockbuster due to the amount of money it made in return.this type of movie is perfect to be released during summer as young couples who are off university can then go on a date, with their partner to see this movie. Also fits being released during summer as the title includes summer!.this was quite a event film although it was initially a independant movie, it had alot of marketing that promoted its release. I think the marketing is what created it into a high grossing movie.High for a independant movie. As of October 2010, the DVD format has sold 759,081 copies, earning $11,382,604 in consumer revenue.
Paul: Release date: February 14, 2011 (initial release)
Again the ideal time to release a comedy. released on valentines day, perfect for humorous types of couples as this does consist of romance.so main audience would be teens as it has teen comedy.Fits this season as it is the start of spring time, lighthearted and when the fun begins that builds it up to summer. this was not a event film as it is brand new.new story line, not much hype was around it, i have figured this out due to the amount of money it made in return. The DVD release features an audio commentary with director Greg Mottola, stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Bill Hader, and producer Nira Park; 2 featurettes; "Simon's Silly Faces"; photo galleries; storyboards and posters; and a blooper reel. The dvd consists of alot of extras that are likely to draw Simon pegg and Nick frost fans in, but the amount made from dvd sales is unknown as it may be too early to calculate.

Identifying Factors of where the movie sits

21 Jump Street
The budget-$42,000,000 (estimated)
The gross-$201,585,328 (Worldwide)
Director-Phil Lord,Chris Miller, producers of How i met your mother they have directed and produced many movies and TV shows together such as Cloudy with a chance of meatballs.
Institution-Columbia Pictures (presents),Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) (as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures) (presents),Relativity Media (in association with),Original Film,Stephen J. Cannell Productions (as SJC Studios)
Style of Marketing-Film Posters,Trailers, fake interview with Ice Cube's character
This movie is a blockbuster as it has 4 institutions,it made a huge amount gross wise, large budget 42 million. The marketing style there is not much there i think this is because it is a remake of the '80s TV series there is already bound to be a large fan base.

The marketing for 21 Jump Street was a textbook example of how to sell a movie properly. Early and often, the trailers and commercials clearly laid out the premise, defined the main characters and unleashed a solid number of jokes. It didn't hurt that the movie starred likeable actors Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, and that it was actually pretty good—it generated lots of buzz from word-of-mouth screenings held around the country over the past few months, and it was also well-received by critics (87 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes).

The Budget-$40,000,000 (estimated)
The Gross-$37,371,385 (USA)
Director-Greg Mottola
Institution-Universal Pictures (presents),Relativity Media (in association with),Working Title Films (as Working Title),Big Talk Productions (as Big Talk) (in association with).
Style of Marketing-Film posters,Trailers,Interviews with the actors.the U.S poster for the movie was a simple poster as it was a teaser. All it had was descriptive words of the main character who is also seen standing there next to his name.the next thing that draws peoples attention is the cast list, they are known as big names in comedy the first teaser trailer of the movie is not a over funny trailer as u can tell the marketers may have not wanted to oversell the comedy or ruin the gags.Online they have a official website, twitter account and a video blog the cast and crew made during filiming.

budget is equivalent to the 21 jump street budget but 21 jump street made way more gross money than the movie Paul.

500 Days of Summer
The budget-$7,500,000 (estimated)

How 'behind the scenes' are used to entice audience?

    The hobbit countdown to release:
We learn that this is telling us how many people were involved in the making of this movie.8 studio buildings used for the hobbit whereas the lord of the rings only used 1 studio building.Alot of departments in the movie making, a big movie production.Huge amount of workers.Animation and speacial effects were the things that were worked on the most and main focus was on them. They tried their best to create it perfectly always adding bits into the green background. We also learnt that they worked at a very fast pace as they showed when a torture device was required they made it under a number of minutes.

This material offers the audience more information on exactly how certain scenes were made and effects such as sound effects. It also lets you know what each department went through throughout the weeks coming to the premiere.Shows that the whole crew is dedicated to the movie as many of them slept in the studio.Audiences will feel that so much has been put into this movie that it is bound to be good or even better than what they would expect.

The audience would watch something like this for information, to see how the movie and certain scenes were produced. For entertainment as the movie is not yet released, it has also been produced in a entertaining way including humour.can also be watched for personal identity as many people will like the way the director peter jackson works therefore they watch every piece of film he produces.

    Star trek
They show how hard they tried to make the movie real, using real settings rather than created artificial sets. you realise how hard they tried to make it look so real with the lighting 'flairs',cameras and use of real settings. for a sci fi movie it is very naturally made.

Offers the target audience to discover how certain scenes and speacial effects were created. They let you in on little tricks they used such as the one where spock gets into the elevator to go onto another floor, he really was already on that floor but they used a green screen behind him to make it look as though he wasnt.Audiences would watch this for personal identity as it is only available on the dvd so it is clear they really enjoy and like this movie so they are bound to want to know how it was created.

    Avengers official site analysis

Straight away we see a large amount of the colour blue being used. blue is almost the main colour theme here as the background image looks as though it has been contrasted to include more blue i can tell they may have done this as the buildings in the background image are more blue than they would usually blue. i think this technique has been used to make the focus more on the avenger characters that have been placed in that setting such as Captain America and hulk as they are not much blue they stand out more drawing audiences attention to them.
At the top of the webpage we ave a red rectangl that says marvel. this is the marvel logo.showing clearly who owns the avengers.
The title avengers assemble is below the marvel logo.next to it is the facebook and youtube logo when you click on them they take you to the official pages where you can recieve more information on the avengers, such as the movies release date.
it also says 'out now on blue ray and DVD' that is one of the first things you see when you come onto the site along with the title being the first thing your eyes are drawn to. that there promotes the movie it will get you audiences to buy the DVD or blu ray. the characters are spread around the background of the page as seeing the characters in their actual battle costumes is something a lot of audiences will want to see.Iron man is in his fighting position whereas all the other characters are just standing there in the sort of position they would after a battle wary looks on their faces as though they are looking out for more danger.Iron man may have been posed like that to show the capability of his suit as the middle of his hand is lit.the 4 main characters have been used.this type of background has been used as it is showing a scene of action, showing the explosions coming from the building, cars turned over. ensuring audiences that this movie is completely action packed as cities will be coming apart.
the menu is straight forward horizontal. when you hover the mouse over the subheadings of the menu they change to the colour red showing that you are able to interact with them. the homepage consists of a short synopsis of the movie along with the starring actors names. just below the main title and menu is a square box which shares a scene or two from the movie which contain many memorable quotes along with trailers and feauturette clips. this has been put here for fans to see and consume extra information on the movie.one of the sites menus that is called 'sign up' is one which allows you to sign up if you want to receive more information from marvel about avengers or any other upcoming project they would be working on.
The overall theme of the site suggests that the target audience of this movie is the gender male as there are many male elements have been used that show this. The use of action scene background, the 4 main male characters that some males may strive to be.the colour scheme here are dark colours such as dark blue, black, silver and red. these colours are the main colours that are featured on the characters costumes.

    • Release dates
    • Actors names

    Enigma Code

    what is an enigma code?
In an opening sene filmmakers sometimes create a question for the audience. They do this by making the main character or a certain object a mystery to the audience by not revelaing their face or the full purpose of the object, doing this will make the audience question themselves such as what is he doing? or who could this man be?.This technique is called the Enigma code. it is sometimes compared to a cliff hanger as a cliff hanger leaves the audience questioning what would happen next.

an enigma code example could be the opening scene of indiana jones and the raiders of the lost ark as they dont show the main characters face until he is about to be attacked. as you dont see him fully it keeps you guessing who it could be beacause they dont show the characters face they show him using mid shots, long shots aswell as a close up for his hands.

    Tuesday 6 November 2012

    indiana jones poster

indiana jones and the last crusade
The whole overall look of the poster creates a desert atmosphere and gives you an idea of this movie taking place in the desert, a place like eygpt as the colours surrounding them are sandy brown and there is a use of bricks, almost looks as though it is an ancient building that they have used as a frame. To kind of set the scene to the audiences.
the sizes of alll the images used are very important here as the larger the image the more important that character is for example Henry Walton "Indiana" Jones's image is the largest here mainly because he is the main character second largest is the older man next to him who we find out after watching the movie is his father. We also guess that it may be his father of grandfather as the tagline is 'have the adventure of your life keeping up with the joneses'
that tagline will draw audiences in more as it is claiming that this movie is action packed, infact it is so action packed that you wont be able to handle it or keep up with the amazing adventourous things they go through. this appeals to a large variety of audiences such as fun/atics as it is action packed and looking at this poster just below the main image you can see him gallopng away on a horse as though he is running away from danger followed behind by a aeroplane which is rather close to the horse. that proves that this movie is action packed and very adventourous as you dont get people running away on a horse from an aeroplane everyday. definatley appeals to rugged traditionalist as indiana is a man that most men would strive to be a charming hero who takes alot of risks. this seems like it would appeal to a family audience aswell as indiana's father is on the adventure aswell and seeing as he is quite an oldman there is bound to be family relevance.

    Film advertising

    The Avengers
     emedia
the promotional website where you can get all the information you need regarding the avengers
    http://marvel.com/avengers_movie/

    Print
all the heroes together in a very action packed scene as you can see explosions going off in one corner and a car set on fire. really giving the message that this movie is going to be full of action and nothing but amazing action.
you can only see half the face of each hero and on both sides they have different identities giving you the idea that this isnt just any old movie this is a fantasy genre movie and the fact that its taken above earth gives you the hint that maybe there are elements to do with space involved in the whole movie

    Indiana Jones

Sound:Not much Diagetic sound at the start of the movie, but there is a large amount of non Diagetic i think it is used the most mainly to set the scene of what this adventure is going to be like and jungle sound effects are used to set the atmosphere. the music pitch changes from high to low throughout this is depending on how close the danger is for example when the man tries to reach for his gun the music intensifies and reaches the loudest point when he turns around and hits it away with his whip. jungle sounds are constant throughout this gives a hint that the dialogue around now wont be as important as the message being given with the music which was that they are in another country, not somewhere you would usually go.
Edits: The main characters silhouette is visible you only really see his face when his companion betrays him and tries to attack him as he turns around and is only then really involved in the shot.the silhouette is used to create mystery of his personal identity it singles him out from everyone and makes the audience straight away realise that he is the main character as the attention given to him and the way he is portrayed at the start is different from the way the others have been portrayed.tracker camera is used to show the group of people and the scene.they have also used mid shot to show a dangerous atmosphere and long shot.
music: tribal drumming, tells us that where they are at the moment the country is not their normal environment.

the types of audiences that would enjoy a movie like this would be rugged traditionalists as it is full of action and the main character is the good looking, courageous man that everyman would try to be like.
fun/atics would also enjoy this movie as it is action packed and adventurous

    Homework

'Comment is free but facts are sacred'

This quote shows that to newspapers facts are what they desire to make the newspaper valuable, without facts the newspaper has no real value to it.Comments can be made whenever by anyone, usually people who are not celebrities or to do with the hot news at the time. The type of facts a newspaper would want are comments or things said by people who are in the limelight of current stories such as parents of the child who has gone missing the things they say based on the whole story is what all newspapers will be after as it makes their newspaper valuable and more worth buying because it could be that maybe the other newspapers haven't got their hands on those facts yet.Having more facts will increase the number of people buying their magazine creating a larger profit which therefore benefits the newspaper company.

How do newspapers approach placing value on stories?
Newspapers can make stories worth more by getting their hands on the information first or some newspapers start scandalous rumors about an aspect of a story such as the daily express they accused the parents of Madeline McCann for her abduction, this creates more fuss around the story. The more outrageous the lie the ore the newspaper will sell. Sometimes they make stories value increase by using proximity. People are more likely to purchase a newspaper if it contains something that may effect them.

    Evil dead II film review

This is a old 80's horror, the first part was known to be so graphically violent that it had been banned in several countries but if you watch it now it doesnt really match up to how gory some movies are now.

This is a continuation of the evil spirits causing terror on Ashleys life he is played by Bruce Campbell
in the first one he was terrified and always getting hurt or injured by the spirits whereas in this one he is much stronger and seems to have learnt from his mistakes and fends off the demons and very different from the first one his girlfriend becomes overtaken by a demon spirit who threatens his life. it is gory as some limbs are torn and blood is visible everywhere.

The part that i really wish i never saw was the part when he reads a verse from the evil dead book hoping it will restore his life but then a eye pops out from his shoulder which then leads onto another head identical to him growing out of his shoulder.

you can see the elements of bizzare gory parts that have been used in Shaun of the dead. Not much is related to Shaun of the dead as this mostly consists of demon spirits and Shaun of the dead is about zombie hordes.

Bruce Campbell from a scene in the Evil dead II

    Intertexuality of genre

Every movie that is around has either been influenced by a book or a old movie from the past that has probably been forgotten or it is based on a book or just a remake of a old movie.

Shaun of the dead was influenced by an old show that Simon pegg and Nick frost shot the Spaced episode Art, it was very similar to the story line for shaun of the dead as they both consist of walking dead-zombies.Simon had been hallucinating that he was fighting off a zombie invasion. you can see elements of that thrown into Shaun of the dead as they do actually fight of zombies in it, he is definatley not hallucinating now.simon and edgar seem to be fans of George A. Romero's work on horror movies, he is a main influence to them.

Movies that influenced Edgar wright's Shaun of the dead:

    • Dawn of the dead (1978) directed by:George A. Romero
the name is similar aswell the first word is replaced with Shaun, in this particular movie zombies have risen from the dead, two SWAT team members, a traffic reporter, and his television-executive girlfriend seek refuge in a secluded shopping mall. you can see the similar elements of characters taken from this that have been used in Shaun of the dead. two main characters who are Simon and Nick, a few friends rather than one and a girlfriend who is his ex at the moment as throughout the movie he is trying to get her back.

    • Evil Dead II (1987)
    • 28 days later (2002)
    • An American Werewolf in London (1981)

I think that film makers use intertextuality to have something to build their movie off, they usually use a few elements from succesfull movies as they know if that is used their movie will be hit beaause the one they took it from was a hit e.g James camerons's Avatar is known to be influenced by Disney's pocahontos and Ferngully the last rainforest.

Shaun of the Dead Movie review

This is a movie that is made up if a good combination of romance and zombie horror comedy, this is a great movie to watch with family and friends as its scary as well as funny at the same time. Simon Pegg never fails to impress with his comedic scripts and entertaining acting.

in this particular movie he decides to go after his ex to try and get her back as his life at the moment is not really working well and the timing just is not right either as there is a zombie apocalypse has broken out. so this really is a great oppurtunity for him to prove to his ex that he is useful as she initially broke up with him as he didn't really show he is worthy. so throughout this movie he saves his friends and his ex proving he is worthy of being her boyfriend.

This movie is full of gore and guts at times it puts you off watching the rest as the zombies are reckless at killing they bite, tear out limbs and all sorts but what keeps you going is the fact that it is so humorous plus it keeps you on edge keeping you wondering whether Shaun will get his girlfriend back and save his friends including Ed who is played by Nick frost.

film making techniques: Shaun of the Dead

Shaun of the Dead  is a British comedy directed and co-written by Edgar Wright, and co-written and starring Simon Pegg.

The film was inspired by various medias such as the Spaced episode Art that Simon Pegg was in he also contributed in writing the script, the character Tim (Pegg),is under the influence of amphetamine and the playstation 2 game resident evil 2 which also consists of fighting off zombies,he hallucinates that he's fighting off a zombie invasion. After discovering a appreciation for Romero's Dead trilogy, they decided to write their own zombie movie.

The movie production was filmed in london , at Ealing Studios, and involved production companies Working title films and StudioCanal. Many exterior shots were filmed in and around the North London areas of Crouch EndMuswell hill and Finsbury park.
The scenes filmed in and around "The Winchester Pub" were shot at The Duke Of Albany in Monson Road.

In the movie there are scenes where long shot, mid shot and close up camera angles are used to create tension e.g.

this is a long shot to create eeriness so we can see her complete posture it leaves audience on the edge.

mid shot to show both of their reactions and face expressions.

see her again but in a long shot over Shaun's shoulder, so we know that we are all looking at her together along with the characters.creating more tension for the audience as she hasnt turned around yet.

close up to show her face reaction as it is most definatley not a normal one to scare audience aswell.

over shoulder shot to show what is happenin to Shaun at the moment.

an oblique/canted angle used to show the impact its having on Shaun, hes been thrown down violently again keeping audience on the edge of their seats.

By looking at various front pages of theirs from throughout the year I’ve realised a pattern as some papers will have a headline that are to do with peoples health. The health problems they arise aren’t the normal colds and coughs you get but they are about serious health risks such as Dementia, Cancer, Heart attacks, Arthritis. From these few headlines you can see that the newspaper is intended for older people in their 40’s as they are the ones who are most likely to be diagnosed with these health risks. You also see them doing a lot of headlines about children, whether they’ve gone missing or been murdered you can tell they like to make people as well as parents worry about their children’s safety. This is mostly because of what they did with the Madeline case. They dedicated at least 100 pages to the missing Madeline story then somewhere along the line they began accusing the parents of being responsible for Madeline’s disappearance. This story backs up what Lord Beaverbrook said ‘the purpose of the newspaper was for propaganda and no other motive’.

You can tell the daily express have a positive view on the royal family as they have a front page dedicated to something positive the queen has done e.g. ‘bravery of our forgiving queen’. I've also picked out that they like to scare people with the weather, they make it more threatening to people than it really is.As well as telling us how bad the weather already is.

this is what was on the front page of one newspaper the way the picture is positioned and the chosen picture is clever as people would sometimes be drawn in by the picture as its someone famous, his hands are pointing upwards towards the main title making your attention go to that.

the daily express's news values are mostly negativity whether its to do with missing children, murder or heath risks, they will always have something negative to say about that topic or they will find a way to make it into something negative to cause a fuss just the way they did with the Madeline McCann case.whereas they will praise Britain on a whole,British athletes and the royal family making it obvious that they aren't very fond of 'immigrants' or people from Europe.

    Mis en scene (representation,colours,pictures layout):
they usually always have a white background and large black writing for the main title sometimes in capitals depending on how important the story is important to them, along with a large main picture on the left or bottom.here at the bottom OK magazine is being advertised as they are made from the same owner Richard Desmond.they usually do have advertising above the main headline near the masthead on every newspaper. they are always constantly giving away free things or making offers.
main colours used here are yellow, black, red and blue as they mostly stand out against the white ad the large black font writing used for the main headline.the papers look as though they have high production value as the pages aren't as cramped as other newspapers they don't have boxes in corners telling you what is inside as it seems as though they aren't bothered greatly whether people buy it or not as the company they are run by owns  a number of print media productions as well as TV channels.
Using the z reading what you see first at the top is the price, it is contantly telling you the price and the sentence is written in capitals aswell which makes you realise they are trying to make a point here this must be important as it is capitalised. 35p is on both sides left and right at the top.
They have used red quite often as product colours the maltesers box is a bright red and so is the mini cooper, they might have used red for the mini cooper aswell as peoples attention would go to the red maltesers box and then to the mini cooper as they think its red too are the two connected.

    Daily express history

The Daily Express is a daily middle market newspaper in United Kingdom. It is the title of Express Newspapers. Daily Express was founded by Sir Arthur Pearson in 1900 . He sold the title and it was bought in 1916 by the future Lord Beaverbrook. It was one of the first papers known to have carried gossip, sports, and women's features, and the first newspaper in Britain to have a crossword.

"I run the paper for the purpose of making propaganda and with no other motive”
    Lord Beaverbrook, former owner.

Beaverbrook was attacked in the House of Commons for running "a sustained vendetta" against the British Royal Family in the Express titles this is one of the things that has changed over the years as now the daily express sees the royal family in a positive light as they constantly have a front page praising the queen. The Duke of Edinburgh also described the Express as "a bloody awful newspaper. It is full of lies, scandal and imagination. It is a vicious paper”.news values:negativity, personality and proximity.

These comments show that Beaverbrook reached his goal for the purpose of the newspaper.
Express Newspapers was bought by Richard Desmond in 2000, publisher of various magazine titles including the celebrity magazine OK! . At the time, Desmond also owned several pornographic magazines such as Big Ones and Asian Babes. He is still currently the owner of the most popular pornographic television channel in the UK, Television X.

    News Value

    • Looking at the sunday telegraphs front page tells me that they care more about negativity, putting people in fear as the death of the british family in france is quite close to home, they also care about personality and currency as they mention the Olympics.

    • The sun is an obvious one as the main headline is almost taking up the whole page telling us that personality and focusing news on celebrities is what matters to them most.

    • The mail also have news value for personality aswell

    • The sunday times have most news value for negativity as they are portraying the murders of the family in france and proximity seems to matter aswell.Currency too seeing that they like to be up to date.
from this i can conclude that most newspapers always base the articles on negativity to make people worry and carry on buying the newspapers to find out more and more on a topic or two, they also base them on personality centering in on celebrities.

    Film review of Get smart

    Get smart:

Get Smart was released in 2008 an American action comedy based on 1960s spy parody television series of the same name. The film stars Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart also known as Agent 86 and Anne Hathaway as Agent 99. Steve Carell is well known for playing main roles in comedies such as little miss sunshine.
Agent 86 who is played by Steve Carell strives to be like his idol Agent 23 who is played by Dwayne Johnson, he is admired by everyone as he is a top agent in the company, what made this movie more humorous for me is the fact that Dwayne Johnson wouldn’t usually be found in a comedy movie as he’s always in action and adventure movies but that’s where they make it an action comedy.
Maxwell Smart works for a Government spy agency called CONTROL. When the agency's head office is attacked, by the company they’ve always been threatened by KAOS, the Chief decides to assign Maxwell as a spy giving him some confidence but the only reason he’s been assigned is because the best agent who is agent 23 is not around and partners him with Agent 99. The two set off to complete the mission and combat their attackers by first unexpectedly parachuting off an airplane and landing in Russian territory – the cause for this was because they were followed closely by an unusual looking man who is over seven foot tall, and looks like he has maybe worked out too much, he is known simply as Dalip. They encounter him a few times along the mission. Along the way Agent 99 does impress the audience as well as Max with her skills and gadgets.

They think they’ve got this under control until they come to learn that Siegfried the man behind the attack on head office was expecting them; making Max realise a double agent has compromised his and 99's identities. Max escapes captures and bombs the weapons factory. During their escape, the Duo are caught by Dalip but Max manages to persuade Dalip to spare their lives by giving him advice on how to repair his failing marriage, and as a result Dalip gives in and lets them escape.
The plot wasn’t as exciting the main reason it actually got rated 6 I think is mainly due to the loveable Steve Carell he definitely made this movie as I think without him it wouldn’t have been as good or as funny. You could say that without him it would have been a flop.

    Action comedy Conventions

Sub genre I've chosen is action comedy:
the conventions of this would be that:

    • it would be a dangerous situation how it is in dramatic action movies
    • a mission waiting to be completed or needed to be completed either the consequence of it not being completed will be fatal.
    • outbreaks in windows,doors,houses.
    • weapons:guns,knives,swords,dangerous military weapons.
    • explosions and crashes.
    • futuristic or expensive cars and motorcycles.
    • fights.
    • jokes and gags.
    • sometimes during a fight there might be a slip up by the main character.
    • the main character doesn't fight his way out by sneaks his way out.
    • tries to act as cool as the main hero characters in action movies the fact that they are silly and always making mistakes will make it funny.
    • the rest of the characters usually don't have faith in the main character of completing the mission but in the end they do and end up proving them wrong.
    • they usually have a big weight on their shoulders.
    • main character is most likely to get the 'attractive' girl like action heroes leaving other characters in awe.
the genre is different as a whole as it has a totally different situation and use of props whereas many other comedies are all taken place in the hometown whereas a action comedy can get the character to travel around to places they are unfamiliar with as they are on a secret mission or have been sent there to carry out a mission, they can sometimes actually have some serious scenes which can be death of others close to the main character but in comedies characters don’t usually die they would be brought back to life miraculously leaving a happy ending.

    Best examples of this genre:
    • Johnny English
    • Tropic thunder
    • Rush hour
    • Get smart
    • Hot fuzz
    • Lethal weapon
    • Ghost busters
    • Kickass
    • Police academy
    • The other guys

    Comdey convetions

    character types
    • Almost always two main characters the 'clever' one, the one who always leads the way and is more important than the other one who is usually the less intelligent one and listens and follows what the lead one says.
    • they sometimes don't have any sense, make silly mistakes.
    • socially awkward, don't get on with parents or have problems with others.
    • sarcastic, take risks, push others into doing things or are one of those people who get pushed into doing silly things by large crowds, victims to peer pressure.
    • regular people, accidents occur and spill over into bigger situations.
    Setting
    • common places,in home town,well populated areas.
    • teen comedy:take place in high schools e.g 21 jump street
    • set somewhere the character is familiar with.
comedy movies usually are based around a dangerous situation or not so dangerous just has to be done under limited time and the outcome of them not completing it will affect them. jokes and gags will be very common along the way, sometimes something or someone will get attached to one character they would find it annoying and frightening but the audience will find it funny e.g in the comedy drama nacho libre one of the main characters has a scene where a woman chases him and tries to take him as she likes him,he is struck with fear whereas the audience will find that very humorous, so you can always expect something like that to happen to a character in a comedy film.

In the early days of the moving pictures everything was similar to a pie in the face, slip on a banana peel type humour. Then in the 30s you got the 'screwball comedies' which were more based on situation like most comedies today. the '60s brought in political humor. The 70's continued with more 'blue humor' and politicalhumor. The 80's brought in humor that was based around ages 15 to 24 i.e toilet humor involving nudity, drugs and swear words. This humor is still used today.humor that 10year olds also understand is used.

    Ted film review

the creator of family guy is responsible for bringing the bad side of teddy bears out,he did that successfully with the comedy movie Ted.

It starts like any other 'normal' movie, it had me thinking at first this is the movie ted right?.
A little boy John Bennett's makes a wish that his teddy bear would come to life, a typical wish something every child wants. Then Ted miraculously comes to life and has been stuck by John's side ever since. everything was almost going good but then Lori, Johns girlfriend who hes been dating for four years comes into the picture and things get tougher. she wants Ted to step out of Johns life a bit as hes a bad influence on him and needs space, she feels like she isn't getting enough attention. so Ted gets his own place and of course a job. what they don't take seriously is that Ted's life is in danger as a man and his child want Ted....desperately. The rest is predictable when the two dodgy characters come into the picture.

At some parts the joke or intended humour is ridiculous because its either too pointless or just plain stupid as its a dirty joke gone far. never the less there were some parts that had you laughing a lot.
The reason John Bennett wished for his teddy bear to come to life when he was 8years old was because he was a lonely little kid,and hes used Ted throughout all his life to get through things without using a real person to lean on or look to for help, in a way this portrays some young peoples lives today. this is just showing how much easier life would be for those individuals if they had a teddy bear like Ted.

    The Lorax Film Review

The Lorax is an animated adventure which was originally an Dr Seuss book, but its been brought to life and definatley made its mark in the movie industry.

It starts with a simple young 12 year old boy named Ted voiced by Zac efron, we later learn that he will embark on a journey to retrieve what the girl of his dreams wants. she desires to have a real tree ad in this story real trees no longer exist, so ted then meets the mysterious Once-ler who is known to be the one who knows the story of what happend to the trees, he tells him and and as he tells him we see the story in flashbacks how a young boy decided to start a business by using the Trufalla trees to create Thneeds which can be used as almost anything. the lorax appears when the first tree is cut down as he is the sort of protector of the forest and its animals. he is voiced by Danny devito which is a great combination i think as he has played characters who are humorous and serious before such as Philatetees from the Disney animation Hercules.

This film has a hidden message to it, it is an example of what the world is today as every tree is chopped down in the movie and all the fuzzy creatures who lived there have to move as they no longer have homes making way for companies and homes which is what the majority of the world is like today. the way the main characters so desperately try to plant the last tree made me think maybe we shouldn't take nature for granted everyone should actually contribute to keeping it alive and preventing more forests being cut down.
